My Nightmare
The Parable
My Nightmare is a loose reimagining of the parable of the rich man and Lazarus — specifically the moment where the rich man, in torment, begs to warn his living brothers about what's coming, only to be told they already have the Word, Moses, and the prophets, and that even someone rising from the dead wouldn't be enough to convince them if that wasn't.
The Dream
The song takes that same warning and brings it home: a father dies having chased hustle and money instead of faith, watches his kids from hell heading down the exact path he modeled for them, and is powerless to reach them.
The Prayer
Then his daughter's prayer cuts through — not because a ghost rose to warn her, but because she found the Word on her own.
The Twist
The twist is the father waking up mid-scream: it was a dream, but the warning inside it was real, and he gets to the one thing the parable's rich man never could — a second chance to choose differently before it's too late.
The Heart of It
The heart of the song is that same line from the parable turned into a lived moment: nobody needed a dead man to rise and deliver the warning. The Word was already there the whole time — she just heard it before he did.
