Drifting
From the Pulpit
This song came directly out of a Sunday sermon at Rising Sun Church of Christ, and it deals with a kind of spiritual erosion that doesn't look like rebellion — it looks like busyness.
The Branch
The core image is a branch cut from the vine that stays green for a few days before anyone notices anything's wrong: still functioning, still showing up, still performing every outward motion of a full life, while the actual connection underneath has already been severed.
Not Walking Away
Drifting isn't about walking away from faith on purpose. It's about work, ambition, and a packed schedule — all good things — quietly taking the place that only God was meant to hold, until exhaustion gets mistaken for faithfulness and the disconnection never registers as danger while it's happening.
The Pull Back
The song ends on the turn the sermon pointed to: the mercy isn't in never drifting, it's in finally feeling the pull back toward the shore — not because anyone's shaming you for how far you'd gone, but because someone's still standing there calling you home.
